The Little Things

This evening I have plans to sit with a friend at our local pub and drink and smoke our pipes. There are bigger towns not far from here that do not have any places where men can go and smoke cigars or pipes. This is not a normal object of thanksgiving, but I am thankful to live near a place like this. The world will never be too advanced for men to converse over their favorite tobacco and brew at one of the worlds longest standing cultural hubs - the pub.

Somewhat related, there is a bar on campus here at UNCG. They allow smoking cigarettes at least. I'm going to check next time if you can smoke a pipe. Smoking a pipe and drinking with good fellowship is one of the best ways to relax and converse. It's too rare these days. The pub needs to make a comeback.

Some of our best conversations have been over a Hickory Stick Stout with the scent of Kahlua Amaretto swirling about.

From what I've seen in movies (which probably isn't accurate but it would be nice if it is), people not of age to drink alcohol would often go to a diner to get a soda or malt. Back then, a soda jerk was a respected job, and a soda was a nice treat. This diner environment was the pub of the underage.

I think I enjoy a soda about as much as I would a beer if i were of age. Which is hardly ever but nice when I feel naughty.
