Speed of Information

About 100 million years ago, when you wanted to send a message to someone, you have to write a letter and mail it, and wait for a response. It took quite some time to get the response. It was not uncommon to not hear from the person for months at a time. In doing so, you would take great care in what you wrote and every word would have sincerity with it. Although the quality of letters would usually be quite high, the turnaround time for a response was high as well.

Look down. Now look up. You're in the present. If you want to speak with someone who is far away, the conversation is only seconds away. However, we often send low quality messages back and forth like 'lol' and 'rofl'. The level of connectedness we experience is much greater though.

My point? It's freaking 2010. I should be able to watch TV around MY schedule. I shouldn't have to tune into a TV station at a certain time to enjoy a show!

Netflix. I love you.

I see what you did there. You used 100 million years as a hyperbole. That doesn't work as a hyperbole anymore.

I didn't know that, probably because information gets to me so slowly.
