I prefer the more minimalist setup of things. My panels are set to the side other than the one in the bottom. It was really the first time I've ever taken on Ubuntu by myself just to see how slick I could make it. For this n00b it took an hour or two to get the themes I liked. I also modified the window decor...
At first I wanted to go for a Mac look but I found other ideas that I liked better. I know this isn't much but I'm proud to be the owner of a computer that runs on Ubuntu 9.10.

That is a very sweet desktop, man. You have definitely taken that machine and made it your own.
What do the two panels on the left-top and left-bottom do?
It's just the default toolbars that are already on it.
Thank you.
Nice. I figure you configured the dock with GnomeDo, but I have never done it myself. Is this something you think you can do a guide on? I'm interested. :)
Surprisingly the dock was done with only a few clicks.
1)right-click >new panel.
2)right-click the panel you just added and then click properties.
3)Orientation-bottom
4)right-click, add to panel (mine were just default app launchers)
5)uncheck the box beside expand, and change the size you want the icons to be. Also you should click the box beside show hide buttons unless you want it to auto hide at the bottom.
I have been meaning to do something with my desktop machine's Ubuntu interface. It's pretty ugly at the moment compared to the Windows 7 partition. This has motivated me to see what I can do.
Thanks.
No problem. I think my setup is a lot nicer than any windows setup has ever dreamed of. Theme shopping was the hardest part just because I wasn't too sure what I wanted. It's like mac, but cool.
That is a sweet desktop. Knowing I can customize my desktop like that pretty easily encourages me to play around with customization.
